Jackie's Blocks One

May 2003

This quilt top was commissioned by Jackie Clegg of Rapid City, South Dakota. Jackie appliquéd these red and green blocks a number of years ago, and commissioned me to put them together into a quilt top for her. The blocks are arranged in a "spinning" pattern, and are floated on a mosaic backdrop of Easy Pieces blocks.

The choice of colors for the fabric run of the background kept this from looking like a "Christmasy" quilt. The yellow-orange-rust-purple run complements the theme print used in these blocks.
There are four blocks left over; all are different sizes, and you will see the resultant quilt top, "Jackie’s Blocks Two" in a future New Work page!

Happy Anniversary, C & T!

72" x 78"
Quilt top designed and assembled by Margaret J. Miller
February 2003

This is the second of two quilts commissioned by C & T Publishing to celebrate their first 20 years in business. (The first one is on page 2 of this section). What is a quilter to do when presented with a set of blocks which include one with a lime green fleece Kermit the Frog??!!! Make a quilt entitled "It's Not Easy Being Green,” of course, and feature green as one of the predominant colors! Surely the range of purples that evolved into the Rail Fence background was inspired by lily pads that go along with frogs…

These blocks, made by authors and other people special to C & T over the years, are truly the finest blocks I’ve ever put together. Never have I had a set where every block truly was 10-1/2 inches, and square!!

Thank you, C & T, for allowing me to help you celebrate…
